California-native and New York based artist Nick Theobald’s latest exhibit, “Nick Theobald: WITH HONEY FROM THE ROCK” is currently on display at the Richard Taittinger Gallery in the Lower East Side through December 12. The solo exhibit features paintings and sculpture using primarily beeswax as his medium. Theobald aims to use his materials as a form of samsara, the repeating cycle of birth, life and death as well as one’s actions in the past, present and future. During his childhood Theobald was exposed to various religions including Christianity and Buddhism. The title of the exhibit, refers to Psalm 81:16, the final gift in God’s vow to reward the faithful: “But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you”.
